The soft life ain't free.
A love letter to the version of me who chooses peace over avoidance.
The Love Note XO is an intuitive collection of musings written by Creative Strategist & Meditation Guide Tyler Riley. This content is intended as nuanced perspective and general guidance. If 2025 has taught me anything, it’s that the pursuit of freedom is rarely a soft one.
It often looks like naming what you’ve been deeply afraid to face, or staring right at the numbers you’ve been avoiding (if you’re anything like me, math seriously annoys you. Hello, I’m a writer for a reason 😂).
While softness can look like calm mornings and gentle living, peace still asks for accountability. We have to release the illusion that avoidance = protecting our peace because what it actually does is delay it.
‘Til this day, I’m proud of my decision to leave a job & industry that was absolutely ruining me. However, I learned that no amount of “manifesting abundance” would get me what I want & need unless I had the audacity to look closely at the details.
I avoided the bills, budgets and debt balances…but the longer I looked away, the heavier it all felt.
I was so focused on staying comfortable during one of the most uncomfortable seasons of my life until I realized:
Avoidance is the real debt.
The interest compounds in anxiety, procrastination, and a whole lot of shame.
So, I decided to face it fully, knowing the assignment is bigger than me. I sat down with my notes—this time with presence instead of all that panic—and built what I call the Debt Freedom Dashboard. It’s part tracker and part love letter to the woman I’m becoming.
Every time I go to update it, I feel a sense of pride as I realize I’m showing up for myself like never before. Sure, it’s nice to see the numbers change…and if we look deeper than the surface, I get to see fear losing its power, too.
Looking at my debt used to feel like a burden, but really it’s the meaning I assigned to it that made it heavy. If you can relate, what if tracking your debt started to feel like finally finding a map after wandering blindly for so long? 🤔
I have to share this dashboard with you because it honestly would feel like a disservice not to, love bug. It goes beyond a financial tool and serves as a mirror.
It serves as a reminder that peace isn’t passive and that accountability is one of the most tender forms of self-love there is.
✨ Access the Debt Freedom Dashboard (please create a copy of the document, then edit yours as much as you wish).
Maybe for you, freedom looks like something else right now: like finally setting a boundary, closing a chapter, or telling the truth about what’s weighing on you.
Whatever it looks like, may you trust that peace is waiting for you on the other side of avoidance. And may you remember that while the soft life ain’t free, it is certainly worth the cost.
With love and audacity,
Ty ❤️🔥
